I'm so glad you're posting on here again Michael! It's funny how much we've haunted the same geographies in Winnipeg but never crossed paths until this year. I found out earlier today that last month was the first snow-free November in Edmonton since 1928! It got up to 13 while I was in Winnipeg and it's supposed to get up to 7 on Tuesday. But even in Winnipeg it was weird -- not as extreme but not like a normal Prairie November nonetheless. It's funny you mention imagining light rail for Winnipeg in the last photo - all I was thinking about when looking at some of these photos was how much Winnipeg looks like a real city, but doesn't really act like one. It has the bones, the vibe, the aesthetic in a way that Edmonton mostly doesn't. Edmonton is like when they try to upgrade a '70s suburb to a transit oriented development. It's Burnaby in the '90s on the Prairie. But at least it's trying, I suppose. Also your oma sounds like a badass!

Oh wow! That is crazy about Edmontons weather! Despite our very strange weather Winnipeg still had a couple of snow dumps, it's just they all melted haha. Gives me Calgary vibes with the chinooks?

Hahah the comparison of Edmonton being a 70's suburb being turned into a transit oriented development. Yes, at least Edmonton is trying. Meanwhile Winnipeg, just does nothing, including shitting the bed for like 50+ years on not upgrading a city bridge and now they have to close it. It's so bad it can't even be used as a pedestrian bridge!

Yeah the Winnipeg November was interesting. It didn’t seem that odd, though, because in Edmonton I’m used to November being a transitional month. Sometimes it’s full snow, but sometimes it comes and goes. I only have the past few falls to reference for Winnipeg, but I know people have said, like I say with Edmonton, it’s gotten notably milder.

The Arlington Bridge is so annoying. Winnipeg is beautiful and has so much potential but the urban planning decisions feel a generation behind Edmonton’s without much pointing to change. Which is depressing.
