Michael here. I’ve been in Macau for the past three weeks with my family and partner, walking through the neighbourhoods and streets that hold so many of my childhood memories. It’s been a joy to be in this contextually rich place with all of them.
I’ll leave the longer insights and thoughts about my time here in Macau for a later post. It would make this month’s post too long. I’ll just leave you with this fun map showing Macau’s size vs Winnipeg’s size.
The blue lined area is the area of Macau overlaid over a map of Winnipeg.
September was quick and segmented into chunks. Looking back it was full of:
Rosebud performance, Maryland Street festival, Oma visit, Kingshead hangout, walking to Tall Grass to get cinnamon buns, family gatherings, Air Canada strike, 12 hour Pacific flight, jet lag, humidity, Macau Portuguese egg tarts, Monte fort, Chinese breakfast, Cheung Chau, stationery stores, Macau IDs, swimming in the rain, beachcombing, instant coffee, Rocky buns.
Hope you enjoy the photos!
P.S. I’m writing this over airport wifi in Hong Kong, so I had to reduce the size of the photos so sorry if they aren’t as crisp as some other months.
Me and my partner’s bedroom in golden hour
Hanging out with my friend Matti.
My buddy Zach playing music on the roof of Darling bar. His music project is called “For Rosebud.” Winnipeg folks look out for a release show in the future!
Maryland Street Festival. This should happen every week during summer. The streets are for the people!
Somewhere on Notre dame. Somehow I got a sense that I should take a photo of this building. A hunch to capture the scene before it changes perhaps?
Such a warmth to these photos, Michael. It’s probably just the humidity but I think there’s a fun, lovingness emanating from the Macau/HK photos in particular with your family. Also, fun fact— I’ve always been obsessed with the golden Grand Lisboa building. Very nice seeing it haunt the backgrounds of some of your images.
