This time last year I had just quit Don’s photo, where I had been working since the fall of 2016 and developed my whole life and identity around. I moved on to working at Woodcock Cycleworks, a local bike shop however I underestimated being able to continue to work my other jobs along with the bike shop job. In many ways, working there forced me to look at other options and really pushed me to apply to work at my current job at MCC.

Jesus meets his mother
Photographed Magazine Pieces on a Collaged Background Michael Veith & Nadya Langelotz
Spanning the years of their lives, this piece shows the coming together of Jesus and his mother. Using pieces from magazines that show the “us” within the images of both Jesus and Mary, this piece invites viewers to consider the journey toward this meeting, and the inevitable ending that follows. Where are we in this meeting? Which photograph can we picture ourselves within? And what is said in the one embrace between mother and son? The accompanying words come from the biblical story, spoken by Mary and Jesus, and meeting in the middle. To view Mary’s journey, begin in the top left-hand corner and follow the sentence right and down, then toward the middle. To follow Jesus, begin in the bottom right-hand corner and read left and up toward the same middle photograph.
