I was coming out of Food Fare and there were a couple cars and people stopped at the intersection. A man had slipped on the ice and hit his head. There wasn’t any blood or anything however there were a couple people surrounding him, helping to divert traffic around him. One of them was an off duty first responder and another a doctor so he was in good hands. Someone even had one of those emergency heat blankets that they put over him. They called an ambulance and in about 10 minutes it arrived.
The Sherbrook Inn + Deno’s Pawn Shop. I’m committed to taking pictures of this structure mostly because I have heard from the grapevine that some developer bought the structure and it’s gonna get torn down and condos are gonna go up.
I’ve been doing some mending here and there but this was the month that I tried my hand and made some rope bowls. A friend showed me how to do it and I am hooked. Always lovely to be able to make something that is pretty functional.
The snow finally came and then the cold came too. It was properly a Winnipeg winter for about two and a half weeks, then it got warm again.
Parlour’s “Club Soda” event, featuring only mocktails. It was amazing!
Connor Vogt, Owner of Parlour Coffee. He asked me to take photos of the event, which I am grateful for the opportunity. He also has his own substack!
On the way to visit the my partner’s brother and sister in law. The road conditions on the 75 were not great. We made it there though.
A recurring photo series of my partner and I in a car’s rear view mirror.
Snow fun with the family
Took apart my sewing machine, oiled it up, and now it really purrs.
At Camp Assiniboia
That Sally Ann thrift store on Sherbrook is legendary.
Local litter
It's easy to think that things in Winnipeg change slowly and compared to other places that is true, but you blink and you also miss the changes happening in your own neighbourhood. These two photos are taken in the same spot on Wolseley in between Maryland and Sherbrook looking North. Left: In 2021. (Film) Right: In 2024. (Digital)
143 Langside, where four of the tenants were killed in Dec 2023.
The corner of Langside and Sarah. I have always loved this intersection.
RIP Tallest Poppy.
The Ches-way Apartments now have a small “construction site” sign on it. My partner’s old landlord was talking to us about how he bought the place and was going to fix it up. Now at the corner of Honeyman Ave and Chestnut St, at the time of construction, Honeyman was still just the continuation of Broadway, and therefore the apartments amalgamated the two streets names to create “Ches-way.”

I too have an affinity for Langside-Sara. And taking photos of that garish yellow retro inn on Sherbrook.
The one of Hwy 75 with the blowing snow is killer. I have lots of memories of scenes like that growing up with a lot of family in the country.
